“I’ve got over 50 pages of homework for our next class”, says Tom LeDuc, President & CEO of LeDuc & Dexter, “It’s time to hit the books!” LeDuc is referring to the Green Building Professional Certificate Program he and approximately 20 other building professionals enrolled in and started attending in July. Classes are being held at Autodesk in San Rafael and Fireman’s Fund Insurance in Novato.

The program covers passive solar strategies, green materials, clean energy technologies, indoor environmental quality, integrated design and low impact development. Other topics include performance contracting, a mechanism to implement energy efficiency improvements with minimal up-front costs. It uses savings resulting from the efficiency project to pay for the work over a period of time. |

Aside from the educational value and certification he will receive, Tom LeDuc sees another big benefit from the program. “This is a huge networking opportunity – about 25% of the class is architects, some of whom we have worked with in the past.” LeDuc & Dexter has also worked with Hammond & Company on a LEED-certified commercial project. |

Art Dexter, Vice President & COO of LeDuc & Dexter, and other employees at the LeDuc & Dexter have attained certifications from Green Plumbers. Tom LeDuc, Kris Kinney and Jeff Shank recently attended classes on Residential Energy Upgrades and Performance Contracting conducted by PG&E. In May Tom LeDuc completed the Certified Green Building Professional (CGBP) program through Build It Green. “If we can become an authority on the subject we can really help our clients and customers with green plumbing and green building.” |
