Tom LeDuc, President & CEO of LeDuc & Dexter, recently consulted with a client on a residential green retrofit project. “They are remodeling a 1950’s home and they also wanted to make it energy efficient.” LeDuc recommended a structured plumbing system, which includes a manifold and PEX tubing instead of copper water pipe. He also recommended ultra-low-flush toilets and a circulating, on-demand hot water system with a water heater that has an Energy Star rating of 93% efficiency. LeDuc recommended that they purchase Energy Star appliances and a high efficiency furnace and air conditioner. |

Since the house was gutted LeDuc emphasized how important it was to buy the proper fiberglass insulation and have it installed properly. “I’ve learned through the green building training that many times insulation is improperly installed . If the wall cavities aren’t filled right with the insulation it can create drafts that travel up the walls into the rest of the home.” |

“It’s not just green plumbing that we’ve learned about”, says LeDuc, “it’s the total package of how all facets of green building work together to save energy - and you need them working together to be successful. If we can share that with our clients and customers we can really help them understand how to be energy efficient.”
