As I write this article, I find it hard to believe that it is fall already and Halloween is just around the corner. Before you know it Christmas will be here. It amazes me how fast this year has gone by. With business the way it has been, I am almost happy to say goodbye to 2010.
I saw a report on the news last night about a town hall meeting our president had yesterday. He and the economists are telling us that the recession, which started in December 2007, has been over since June 2009. I find this quite interesting as we started to make cutbacks in our company in the fall of 2006, and continue to make them as I write this article.
Is our government really in touch with our economy? They must not pay any attention to the California market, or the Sonoma County market where I live. We have over 10% unemployment in Sonoma County. Today, Larry Summers, Obama’s chief economic advisor resigned. Most of the time I have trouble understanding or believing what our government officials are telling us.
I still see opportunities for public works projects, Green construction projects and energy retrofits in our market. Service still seems fairly strong and we are feeling positive that it will stay strong into winter.
Saturday, September 11th I attended the Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino PHCC’s 65th Annual Installation & Grant Awards held at Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula. Our National Zone 4 Director Steve Rivers and I had the honor of installing the officers and board of directors.
Ann Rivers, Peggy Hall and Tracy Threlfall were also in attendance from PHCC of California. It was a great evening with great food and entertainment for all.
Next month is our National PHCC Convention Connect in Las Vegas. As I said last month, there will be many opportunities for education, Technology Seminars, and networking. Connect 2010 is the place to crystallize strategies, build relationships and find inspiration. I hope to meet many of you there.
