Education and training are important to all of us. The more education employees have, the more valuable they become to the company.
Training programs and educational opportunities are available and on going for all employees.
Field personnel have opportunities for in-house training classes, foreman training and Code Update classes. The warehouse staff is trained in safety, forklift certification
and many have received flexible gas pipe and PEX certification. The office staff takes on-going computer software classes including industry specific programs.
The managers attend computer classes and seminars that cover everything from new products and services to human resources and managing people.
The owners are attending business seminars with institutions such as National Bank of the Redwoods and trade
associations like the North Coast Builders Exchange, PHCC, CCA, TEC, CSI and HBA. Through education we are
constantly working to improve our high standards.
Boot Camp This educational program is designed to teach a new employee, who possesses little or no practical skill, what he or she needs to know to be productive on the job.Boot Camp is an 11-week course that educates employees in plumbing skills and knowledge that includes:
- Plumbing & Construction Materials
- Plumbing & Construction Products
- Plumbing & Construction Nomenclature
- Plumbing & Construction Safety
The classes coincide with on-the-job training and the class meets for 3 hours once a week. Upon completion of the course the employee will have gained the skill, knowledge
and confidence to be productive on the job. In July, 2001, the first class of 7 employees graduated
Language Exchange Classes This course was created to encourage non-English speaking
job candidates to participate in a positive educational environment that will allow them to communicate effectively in the work place. LeDuc & Dexter participates in this program
in partnership with the Adult Literacy League of Sonoma County. The classes are held at LeDuc & Dexter twice a week in six-month increments. Each student is assessed
prior to the first class to help establish the levels of the curriculum.The focus of the course is on basic skills in the workplace covering subjects such as, safety procedures , how to ask
questions, how to respond on the job with fellow workers, building supervisors, contractors and how to refer customers to the office. The first class has 10 students with 2
instructors and the responses from this experience have been very positive.
